blog MORE LIKE "DOGMA" FOR DUMMIESposted by Joe Cortez on 1.23.10 I should've known better. Sure, the one sheets and billboards for "Legion" look great but they promise something the final product just doesn't deliver. Now I'm all for a god apocalyptic yarn that involves angels, the possessed and my favorite fictional character of all time, God but this flick just drops the ball on so many levels. If you're reading this I'm sure you've seen the trailers and have an idea of where this film is headed so there's no need for me to recap. What's most surprising is it never really takes off from there. The movie basically takes place within the confines of a rundown diner in the middle of nowhere with the characters each playing off one archetype or another; animosity ensues. It could almost be a play. Almost. From the moment it begins, the thing's on auto-pilot. The characters do nothing but serve the plot, saying and doing things that advance the story and nothing else. That's a real shame considering the impressive talent director Scott Stewart has lined up here. It's like he gave each member of the cast one emotion to play off for the entire movie. I know this film is supposed to take place over the course of a couple of days, but give me a break. I don't want to get into the specifics of the film here and if you're intent on seeing it this blog certainly won't dissuade you but there is one point I want to bring up here. You could argue that the most important character in the film is the unborn baby the waitress is carrying however the film never answers why it is so damned important. Anyway, I didn't mean to write a full on review of this mess so I'll just wrap it up here. Final words on "Legion:" don't waste your time. |
