about If you're reading this right now you're probably asking yourself, "Why another movie site?" Most of the better news and review sites have a certain tone that is more or less represented by the majority of the contributing staff. It would be easy for me to attempt to reach out to their editors in an effort to get my work viewed on their sites but in this age of self publishing why bother? I honestly don't think my views on film fit in with the consensus and the means to get my thoughts out in the open are well within my reach so why not start my own site? Okay, so I'm missing certain things (like an audience) but I'm confident that will come in time so long as my opinion and analysis stays honest and true. After all, you're here so that's a start.I'm doing this out of a love of movies. I'm not sure how long I'll keep this going but I've had the domain for a little over three years now with only simple image and a tag line that read "IN PRODUCTION," so I felt it was time I actually did something with it. Some of you reading this may have read my live music and album reviews on other sites over the years. While I enjoyed writing about music, I always felt my writing was lacking since I'm not in love with music the way I'm in love with film. Basically, I feel that I like what people do with music more than music itself. A beat without an idea is a pretty boring thing. I'm sure I'll continue to write about music in one form or another down the road. My intent is not to provide the latest news, box office or early reviews. There are plenty of other sites that do that far better than I can manage at my current rate. This site will focus on editorial and analysis. I plan on doing more elaborate features in the near future that will focus on specific themes and bodies of work with a few that I've had in the pipeline for quite some time but never quite managed to find the proper outlet for. With all that said, I think the most important thing I can do right now is give you an idea of what you're in for with Celluloid Annoyed. Rather than give you a list of my top ten personal favorite films, it's easier for me to just narrow it down to one specific film that has impacted my life more than any other and that film is "Star Wars." George Lucas' sprawling space epic, which encompasses six episodes and thus I include all six, is the sum total of a lifetime of filmmaking. I deem it to be the very epitome of what cinema can be and has been. That it happens to be a work of genre fiction in no way informs my movie watching habits. The idea is to cover films of all sorts, big and small, new and old. loved and loathed all in the name of giving attention to works I feel deserve it. So sit tight and hang on folks... -Joe |
